Gastmusiker auf blackstar’s asending.
Der u.a. von King Crimson bekannte Warr Gitarrist aus Seattle lässt sein Instrument auch in Jerry Marottas Security Project Band erklingen und ist einer von weltweit vielleicht zwei Hand voll Musikern, die mittels der Tapping Technik eine ganz eigene Art geprägt haben, die Warr Guitar zu spielen. Jerrys Vorschlag, Trey zu fragen, ob er denn Lust hätte, Basstracks beizusteuern wollte und konnte ich definitiv nicht verneinen und war total begeistert, dass auch er spontan zusagte.
Für drei Stücke arbeiteten Trey und ich über Skype und Email zwischen München und Seattle die Bass Parts für emotional amok, never will und rest when I’m old aus. Akribisch und mit viel Liebe zum Detail:
Trey: „OK, I hate to do this to you again, but…. here are three options for EmoAmo. The bass is mixed quite loud so you can’t miss it. I’m just looking for a clear direction: tapped, drummed or picked. Plusses to each — just down to your preference and how you see the track as a whole. Pick one and we’ll get an awesome bass part.“
alex: „Listening over and over again I’d find it quite interesting to have a mix of the styles: Verse tapped, chorus drummed (as this sounds a little more aggressive in my perception) and middle eight picked (as it is a softer part)?! Does that make any sense?! :-)“
Trey: „Yep! Can you do that.“
Ebenso steuerte Trey den Solo Part für rest when I’m old in seinem typischen Signature Sound bei. Hört da unbedingt rein. Das haut mich auch Jahre später noch um.
